Running is so much more than what meets the human eye. For some, the runner you see pounding the pavement on a brisk Chicago morning is just another person trying to stay in shape, lose weight, or fit into those trendy skinny jeans. They must be crazy all bundled up running at wee hours in the morning as people drive by staring out the windows of their heated car drinking coffee to get that morning rush of energy.

Clocking 5-8 miles daily through all kinds of weather and terrain for a reason other than to lose weight might sound extreme unless you could see what I see, get in my head, run in my shoes for just one day.

The world is my playground and making an imprint wherever I go is my challenge. Running is mental. Take out the physical reason to run and enjoy the simple pleasures. Running is like hitting the slow motion button on this fast pace world. It allows a person to see things they would usually miss when cruising down the street at 40 miles per hour. It allows a person to appreciate the environment around them; clear their heads of daily stresses, take in the smells of the air, and hear the crunch when gliding on top of freshly fallen leaves.

There are places cars cannot go yet people so often depend on them to get everywhere. Look down and close your eyes. Imagine the ability to go anywhere without boundaries, speed limits, one way streets or detours effecting your travel. Now open your eyes and realize you have what it takes to go the distance and cross the boundaries with those two gifts, your feet.

People get in their cars with a destination in mind but runners lace up their shoes looking to discover and create new paths one stride at a time.
