The Most Important Aspect in Training

What is the Most Important Aspect in Training?

Your Vision of course!

In the world of fitness, I believe vision is the first step everyone must address. Not your eye site, but the vision you have of yourself and where you are going. Throughout my wonderful career in sports, starting way back in middle school, we were constantly challenged to set goals for ourselves. What this did was give me a reason to push through the pain or push through the days I didn’t want to go workout. Daily at my house I would look at a picture of a professional athlete hanging next to my goals and a challenging quote “shot for the moon, if you miss you will land among the stars”, author unknown. This pushed me to do extra push-ups, extra abs, to eat extra PB&J nightly trying to gain just a little more ground.

One of my founding principles I live my life by is “without vision people are unrestrained”. What this simply means is that if I don’t have a goal set before me, a vision of what I am trying to accomplish, with specific details, I will live without restraint in my life. This can be seen in all aspects of your life. One area is your finances, if you have a financial budget and in your budget doesn’t have money set aside for fast food you won’t go McDonalds because you don’t have the money.

I challenge you today if you want to improve your fitness standards, hang a picture of what you want yourself to look like, maybe a picture of what you use to look like at the weight you now want to obtain. If your goal is to get a chiseled 6 pack, then hang a picture of someone else’s abs you want to try to look like. Hang them in places you can view regularly. To be blunt hang them in places where you know you may stumble, by the fridge!

Lastly, put your picture or a set of goals in your car and every time you get ready to get of the car to go workout look at it. This will give you a visual image in your mind and help you fight through a little extra pain and help you go to a new level. Every time you leave your house, visually look at your goals or the image and remind yourself today is the day. Every time you open the fridge have a picture there. I promise you if you get your vision corrected and start viewing yourself the way you want to look you will find more success in overcoming the common temptations EVERYONE has in their daily life. You must have a fine focus, a clear vision!

Very True...

The absolute key to fitness! If people could wrap their head around this fact it would make things so much easier as it relates to them getting in shape. For me, it's my birthday, I use it as my "goal" to be in better shape each year. Right now I'm about 3 months away from my 45th so I need to get focused on the matter at hand. I want to be my best at 45...in every regard, so I'm taking the nescessary steps to make that happen.
Thanks Doug.
