Taking Responsibility for Yourself

I’ve been in this fitness game a long, long time. I counseled hundreds of people and have been fortunate enough to help many of them achieve the body they have always wanted. I’ve learned many things along the way and if I were to distill all of that down to one simple lesson, it would be this: you need to take responsibility for yourself. There, I said it.

I was just having a conversation this morning with a client who is very close to me, and I realized something. That person is always looking for some outside influence to help them FINALLY get in shape. I had to tell them the hard truth, “You’ve made every excuse in the world why you can’t get in shape. You’ve purchased every gadget, gimmick, had plastic surgery and none of that has helped you one iota. When are you going to take responsibility for yourself?”

It must have been rough hearing that, I know, but I saw a light come on in their head realizing that what I was saying was the truth. The bottom line is, this site can’t do squat for you, your spouse can’t do squat for you, liposuction can’t do squat for you if you are looking for those things to be the answer to your problem.

You need to “man up” and CHOOSE to do something about the way you look and feel, today. If you don’t, ten years will fly by and where will you be then? I told you when you came onto this site that I promised to tell you the truth and this is it: nobody can do anything for you but you!!!

Another thing is this…love yourself the way you are. My wife was upset the other day because she was unhappy with the way she looked. My response was, “that is the body you have, and you need to learn to live in it.” I know that might sound harsh to many of you, but it was said in a loving context and I followed it up by telling her that I personally love her body the way it is.

If you aren’t happy with who you are now, chances are, you won’t be happy with who you are when you lose ten, fifteen or one-hundred pounds. You’ve heard the old saying, “if you aren’t happy with one dollar, you won’t be happy with a million.” Get things in perspective and it makes it much easier to move forward.

Start blogging on this site, create a forum, a conversation, meet people, and become active in your life. Not that you already aren’t active in your life, but take it to the next level. This site is designed with you in mind. It is a “social networking” that is devoted to fitness and self improvement.

Share stories, thoughts, emotions, successes, failures, joys, sorrows, make friends, learn, educate and become apart of something bigger. When you reach out to others it makes what you are going through so much less important. People in the world need to hear from you, what you’ve have experienced in life is meant to be shared with others in hopes you can help them.

I’m here for you; you can be there for others. So, in summary…choose today to take your life to the next level, and I promise you will be better off as a result.
