About 2 months ago, I received an email from a guy by the name of Mark Patrick Murray out of New York City. He said that he had accidentally stumbled upon my website while looking up a great photo editor also by the name of Karen Mullarkey. Mark is a photographer and was looking to contact her regarding business. The funny thing is, I knew exactly who he was talking about because when I about 8 years old my parents saw Karen's name in an issue of Sports Illustrated. Since I was so passionate as a child about athletics they suggested that I send her a letter (yes, we wrote letters back then b/c email was not heard of yet). I wrote Karen a letter and introduced myself and told her that I had the same name with the exact same spelling. I never did end up hearing from her, probably because she was one busy lady.
The ironic thing is, here is this guy that found my website on accident and sent me an email to say hello. He also told me that he was at one time 50 pounds overweight and had recently gotten back down to a healthy weight. He felt that he was at a plateau and needed to change his workout program up so he could add some muscle to his physique. He then told me that he would love to travel to Arizona to train with me. I honestly figured that would never happen, but I told him to let me know when he was ready.
About 2 weeks later, I received an email from Mark saying that he was ready to travel to AZ to train with me. At first, I was a bit freaked out because I did not even know him and he was willing to travel across the country to workout for a couple of sessions. Well, later I figured out that I had nothing to worry about. I found out that Mark was a man of his word and booked his flight out to AZ in May.
He arrived at our gym ready to workout. As soon as I met him, I knew we would continue to communicate even after he left AZ to head back to NYC. Mark is not only a talented photographer who just did a shoot for Forbes Magazine www.markpatrickmurray.com, but he is also a very gifted person because Mark is deaf. He told me that photography is a great way for him to communicate without speaking.
I ended up training Mark twice while he was in town and it was a great experience. He had such a strong drive and work ethic. For not having much background in lifting weights on a regular basis it certainly did not slow him down. Mark told me that he wanted to come back out and train with me again.
Low and behold, as I said before Mark is a man of his word and has booked his trip to come back out to AZ to train with me. He will be staying for 2 weeks and working out a total of 8 times. I have to say that I am truly flattered that he would go through all this trouble to train with little old me and I am looking forward to the return of new Irish friend.
That just goes to show the power of the web!
